Regardless of what sector you work in and where your career takes you, at one time or another in that career you are going to have to sit down and subject yourself to that most feared and reviled part of job hunting – the job interview. And again, no matter what sector or industry you are looking for work in, the same rule applies to every job interview – first impressions count. They might deny it, but most interviewers will make a judgment about you from the second that you walk through the door. And the first thing that the interviewer will notice about you is how you are dressed and how you look. Think appearances shouldn’t matter? Maybe so. Think that they don’t matter? Guess again.

What this means is that regardless of the casualness of the people in the work environment you are applying to join, you need to be dressed professionally and appropriately when you turn up for that first interview. Appropriate, for most interviews, will mean that old staple, the suit and tie. You may well think it old fashioned, you might want to work in a trendy dot com start-up where everyone is sitting around in shorts and t shirts, but you are not working there yet and you have one aim and one aim only – to make the interviewer take you seriously. Just wearing a suit and tie shows you are serious and responsible and gives you a massive initial advantage over candidates who turn up in their jeans wearing a Guns ‘n’ Roses t shirt.

For men you should probably wear solid coloured suits of dark grey or navy blue and always with a smart and crisp white shirt (long sleeved) as well as a tie that is neither too bright, nor too garish. Socks should be dark and you should wear a pair of conservative leather shoes. They should be well polished. Ensure that your hair is tidy (it doesn’t hurt to get it cut before an interview) and don’t lather on the aftershave and leave the interviewer choking for air.

Women should go for a similar shade of suit and tie as well as a smart white shirt. If you wear a skirt with the suit make certain that it is long enough that you will be able to sit down at ease and comfortably. Avoid slapping on too much perfume and make up and that your jewellery is not too ostentatious or too dangly.

Finally, both women and men should remove their piercings and cover their tattoos (if possible). On no account walk in chewing gum and never bring your mobile, or ipod into an interview. If you must bring a bag, make it a professional looking bag and make sure that you have emptied it of all the junk and detritus that normally collects at the bottom. Once empty, use it to carry your resume, a pen and a handkerchief. Don’t carry a bottle of water into the interview with you. Drink later.
Follow these tips and you will at least look professional. Anything else is up to you.

When people start to examine the best ways to earn serious money, they sometimes come to the conclusion that the most advantageous move is to work for themselves or go into business on their own. Starting your own business, or freelancing, is the perfect way to break away from the confines of an office environment where you think you are being rewarded too little for too much work. If you believe in your skills, no matter what industry you work in, then going freelance and starting up your own business can be very exciting and extremely rewarding. Not only that but you will discover a new flexibility to take the projects you want to take and to maintain some control over the direction your business and your career is going. Since most office jobs for big companies no longer have the advantage of being a job for life, like they used to, and with the internet offering jobs from all over the world to freelancers, it is now much easier to work for yourself. Best of all, freelance rates are often almost double those of their company worker equivalent. Add to that the fact that you are the business and you own the business and it quickly becomes clear that working on your own can be extremely rewarding, financially speaking.

With all that being said, it is never quite that easy and anyone thinking about changing their career to work for themselves should take a moment to reflect on what it might be like. Clearly there are going to be downsides too. There will almost certainly be weeks, or months, particularly when you start out, when you find there is little or no work coming in at all. This can be scary. How will you cope? Will you have savings put by? Will you have the willpower to not draw too much money from the business when times are good, so that you can cover yourself when times are lean? Secondly, have you got it in you to go out there and chase contracts and customers down when business is slow? You will be depending on yourself for your income so you better know for sure that you have got the drive that freelance work requires. Thirdly, have you thought about the disadvantages you will face when it comes to mortgages and other financial products? Running your own business and working freelance may be financially rewarding but they are also seen as being less financially stable by banks and other financial institutions. It is a fact of life that the banks are always more reluctant to lend money or provide mortgages for freelance workers and small business owners because they see them as a bad risk. This is unfair, but to a bank, the calculation is simple – freelancers and small business owners will have irregular salaries and payment schedules and could suffer a drop in business at anytime. Finally, even if they do decide to offer you a mortgage or loan, it will normally be at a higher rate because of the perceived risk they see in you as an investment.

That is not to say there are no companies out there specializing in this kind of product for people who work for themselves – there are. You just need to look a bit harder to find them. Bear in mind too that there are also a huge selection of tax benefits and government incentives for people who want to start their own business. Certainly, going freelance or starting your own business is not to be taken lightly. There are risks. But it can also be the most liberating and financially rewarding decision you will ever make. Think carefully.

Demand for quality locksmiths is on the rise.

In a career that is professionally regulated by just 11 states, the need for skilled locksmiths is higher than it ever has been.

As the economy declines and job seekers continue to look for means of self employment, becoming an independent locksmith makes a lot of sense. Not only will you be your own boss, make up your own hours and be begged for by your customers, but you’ll make some good money as well.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May, 2010 locksmiths in the United States earned a mean annual wage of $37,550. They define locksmiths as individuals who repair and open locks; make keys; change locks and safe combinations; and install and repair safes. Locksmiths can work under someone, or better yet, you can set up your own business and work for yourself. Because you will work for yourself, you can work as much as you like, and earn much more than you otherwise could have.

If you are interested in becoming a locksmith, you may need to procure a professional locksmith license in the state you live in addition to obtaining a business license to do business in your jurisdiction.

In addition to licensing, it may also behoove you to find specialized locksmith training to further your education and increase your odds of getting more business and making more money. Every state has a department of taxation as well as a secretary of state, among other bureaucracies, that can answer questions you may have regarding licensing and training to become a locksmith.

A career as a locksmith can be incredibly rewarding. Imagine making every single customer worship you for getting their locked keys out of their car, or allowing them access to their home after they forgot the new alarm code. You’ll have customers throwing compliments out left and right, which is something that very rarely happens in this day and age.

The barriers to entry in this profession are very low, and that is something that is subject to change. Many states have pending legislation that supports the regulation and professional certification of locksmiths doing business in those states. If you were going to enter into this career, now would be the time to do so. It will only become harder and more expensive to become a locksmith once every state has specific regulations in place.

Website Designer – Escape The 9 to 5

If you haven’t yet escaped the 9 to 5, one of the best careers you can work to help supplement your efforts and knowledge is designing websites for other people.

Salary

Not only is it a very high paying career that you can charge $1000-$8000 per site depending on your skills, but it can also improve your skills so you can hasten your marketing efforts in making passive income online.

Requirements

In order to become a website designer, you must understand the difference between a website designer and a web developer. Simply put, a designer is focused more on the graphics and design of the site while a developer is more deep-rooted in coding and programming things to work properly.

Major Changes

Thanks to the growing popularity of blog networks such as WordPress, many websites are now designed using the ease of blogs such as WordPress and Blogger. With the wide variety of tools and themes, the line between web developer and web designer is becoming much smaller with both careers managing to cross lines when it comes to design and programming thanks to the ease of these tools.

Training

There are many different training opportunities including formal schooling. Since most web designers work for themselves as freelancers, it is really up to you on how you would like to go about learning the craft. You can take classes, read study guides, or just start hands-on and learn as you go, depending on what learning style is best suited for you.

Outlook

Website design is one of the highest paying careers because not only do you get to set your price and have the satisfaction of working for yourself, but you can also multi-task between your work for clients and work for your passive income very easily.

It can be expected that with the growth of advertisers moving away from the TV, and spending more money on the web, that web designing will only become more lucrative in the future.

The internet is constantly changing and now is the best time to get into the learning curve so you can learn many of the fundamentals required to be a successful website designer.

Most prospective students will have in interest in knowing what are the highest paying degrees before making their choice on which college major to pursue. This list can help stir up career ideas and possibly help students focus their sights on a specific degree that will lead to a great career after college. We all know how valuable a college degree can be and it can be even more valuable when you factor in just how much money that degree can make you over the course of your career.

For this list we split the highest paying degrees into two separate lists. Our first lists looks at the highest paying bachelor degrees as well as the highest paying associate degrees. Our second list factors in even higher education and looks at masters and doctorate degrees.

We looked at a few different factors in determining these lists:

Starting salary
Estimated salary earnings over an entire career
Average annual salary
Job stability and job opportunities available

Since there is no cut and dry way to determine the exact correlation between a college degree and the money earned post college, we felt that these factors would put together the most accurate assessment of just how valuable these degrees are.

Highest Paying Degrees – Bachelor Degrees & Associate Degrees

Chemical Engineering
Petroleum Engineering
Computer Engineering
Nuclear Engineering
Aerospace Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Computer Science
Physics
Biomedical Engineering
Mathematics
Economics
Medicine
Industrial Engineering
Software Engineering
Materials Science and Engineering

Highest Paying Degrees – Masters Degrees & Doctorate Degrees

Aerospace Engineering
Dentistry
Medicine
Business Administration
Biomedical Engineering
Optometry
Computer Science
Finance
Chemical Engineering
Law
Geology
Economics
Veterinary Medicine
Information Systems
Biology

Most of these degrees are in engineering and medical fields which require plenty of skill in math and science. These degree choices are extremely competitive as well as difficult to complete. If you are looking into possibly pursing any of these fields you should be prepared for years of hard work and dedication. These degrees listed can lead to huge financial opportunities within very prestigious careers. Many of these highest paying degrees go hand in hand with our highest paying jobs and highest paying careers lists. Making the right choice with your college degree decision can really change your entire career outlook and pave the way for great financial rewards.

For those who don’t see going to college in their future you can check out our highest paying jobs without a degree list which will show you great job and career options that don’t require a college degree. No matter what path you decide to take their are plenty of great financial opportunities out there. If college is in your plans then these highest paying degrees can get you well on your way to a great paying career!

Since there is no cut and dry way to determine the exact correlation between an online degree and the money earned post college, we felt that these factors would put together the most accurate assessment of just how valuable these degrees are.

Many people without a college education would love to know what are the highest paying jobs without a degree. We all know how important a college degree is in the job market today but the question is, is it still possible to make a decent living without one? The answer to this question is very simply, yes!

We have compiled a top 15 list of the best paying jobs in which you don’t need a college degree. Most of the jobs on the list require special training or skills and some may require a specific certification.

As usual in compiling our list we looked at a few different factors:

Starting Salary
Rate of Financial Growth
Expected Earnings Of the Course of a Career

We look at all three factors that way we give an accurate assessment of which jobs are truly the highest paying jobs not just over the short term but over the life of a career. Here’s the list

Highest Paying Jobs Without a Degree

1- Air Traffic Controller
2- Construction Machine Operator
3- Power Plant Operator
4- Commercial Driver
5- Funeral Director
6- Real Estate Agent
7- Elevator Repair Person
8- Restaurant Manager
9 – Retail Managers
10 – Electric Line Installer
11 – Satellite/Cable Installer
12 – Brick Mason
13 – Postal Worker
14 – Electrician
15 – Carpenter

As you can see, although these jobs might not require a college degree they can still require plenty of skill and formal training. If you are someone without a degree you there are still plenty of opportunities out there to make a great living. They say a college degree will earn a person about a million dollars more over a lifetime then someone without a degree. If you are driven and choose the proper careers paths those numbers become meaningless. Although a college degree is extremely helpful there is no reason someone can’t make a great living and have one of the highest paying jobs without a degree and without an college education whatsoever. You just need to know where to look.

On a search for the highest paying jobs? As everybody knows a high paying job can lead to a better life. Money is something we would all love to have a lot of and having a great high paying job is the way to obtain this dream. Usually these high paying jobs are very competitive and require a good amount of schooling and dedication. Lets take a look at what determined our list of highest paying jobs.

Highest Paying Careers – Medical

We decided to make this list and a highest paying careers list. Although most of the information is very similar we didn’t factor in the importance of money made over the life of the career. The list of highest paying jobs dealt more with how much a job would earn per year rather then the highest paying careers list below which is dealing with money earned over an entire career. We didn’t include jobs such as entertainers, athletes ect… Because those numbers fluctuate so drastically and do not really represent an accurate assessment of those chosen career paths.

As with our highest paying careers list most of the highest paying jobs are in the medical community. We kept these lists separate that way we were able to include more jobs that didn’t deal in just medicine. We wanted to make sure that our best paying jobs list gave an accurate and overall look at the different fields that are earning top money in todays job market.

Highest Paying Jobs Specifics

If you are someone searching for a new job this list can be very helpful in formulating new career ideas. You can look at the professions listed to start seeing which fields might be the best paying. None of these professions on the list should be jumped into lightly. Most require a bachelors and a masters degree. If you are interested in which degrees can help you get one of the many top paying jobs out there then you can have a look at Highest Paying Degrees. Some of these jobs, especially in the medical field require even more education and training. If you do feel you have what it takes and are ready to work hard, you just may be rewarded with one of the highest paying jobs!

Highest Paying Careers – Money Earned Over a Career

In order to put together these lists we had to factor in a few different things. The criteria these lists will be looking at to determine the highest paying careers are:

- Highest starting salary -
- Most room for financial growth -
- Amount earned over a full career -

The big difference between this and our highest paying jobs list is factoring in the amount earned over a full career. Our list of highest paying careers are split up into two and also do not include careers in sports and entertainment. The first list is the top 10 highest paying medical careers. The second is the top 10 highest paying non-medical careers. This is because almost all of the highest paying careers are in the medical field. Due to this we felt it was better to give a broader look at the different high paying careers.
